We are a publicly quoted biopharmaceutical company, specialising in the development of novel drugs to improve the treatment of cancer. Our lead drug candidates, which are currently undergoing clinical trials in patients with cancer, target the treatment of multi-drug resistance in cancer and the inhibition of cancer cell growth. As part of our search for new drugs which will contribute to improved treatments, we are also researching novel approaches to the problem of metastasis (the spread of cancer around the body), to thrombosis prevention and to asthma. Xenova undertakes the process of drug discovery and development, from target identification to and including conduct of clinical trials. We currently have two lead drug candidates which are scheduled to complete Phase II clinical trials in 2000. XR5000 is a drug for use in the treatment of a wide range of solid tumour cancers. XR9576 is designed to overcome P-gp (P-glycoprotein) mediated multi-drug resistance in common cancer types in order to improve the effectiveness of a number of widely-used chemotherapeutic drugs. Xenova is also currently undertaking a number of preclinical studies, primarily targeted at cancer drug development.
