Whitehall-Robins Healthcare is a leader in the research and development, manufacturing and marketing of a broad range of consumer health care products. With 1999 U.S. sales of $1.7 billion, Whitehall-Robins is one of the largest over-the-counter (OTC) health care companies in the United States. Of the thousands of products in the U.S. non-prescription market today, three of the five top sellers are Whitehall-Robins products: Advil®, Robitussin® and Centrum®. Whitehall-Robins competes in more than a dozen important categories, the top three being analgesics, cough/cold/allergy and vitamin/nutritional supplements. Twelve of the division's products are number one or number two in their respective categories. In 1998, American Home Products acquired Solgar Vitamin and Herb, a leader in the nutritionals/herbal marketplace.
