AVAX has developed a hybrid business paradigm, crossing a custom-made therapy with a product-based business model. The company has completed the build-out of a manufacturing facility that meets Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and implemented a delivery system that is able to supply the entire United States from one facility. Recognizing this unmet medical need, AVAX has licensed from Thomas Jefferson University (TJU) an issued U.S. patent and certain patent applications covering a process for the modification of a patient's own cancer cells into a cancer vaccine. This process allows AVAX to produce an autologous cell vaccine (AC Vaccine) that stimulates the patient's immune system in seeking to eliminate the cancer. Since the treatment regimen uses the patient’s own cells in the custom-manufacture of the vaccine, many of the severe systemic side effects typically associated with other cancer treatments can be avoided.
