Organon N.V. BioPharma

Formed as a spin-off of a meat-processing firm based in Oss, The Netherlands more than 75 years ago in 1923, today Organon is the largest Dutch research-based pharmaceutical company and the largest pharmaceutical business unit of Akzo Nobel. The number of employees has grown to nearly 10,000 and the company is active in more than 100 countries with its own affiliates in 55. To date much of its international reputation rests on its core expertise in the field of hormone research and gynaecology. While interest in this important therapeutic area - encompassing contraception, infertility and menopausal products - remains at the forefront of its research & development (R&D) programme, research in three other major therapeutic areas is carried out. Psychiatry forms a strong second pillar to the company's R&D interests with a focus on depression and schizophrenia and research is also conducted to develop new medicines for atherothrombosis and immunological approaches for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis.
