Minor Groove Binder Coupled to Oligonucleotides Epoch's Technology focuses on the use of compounds which bind in the minor groove of DNA. These Minor Groove Binders (MGB) are analogs of compounds found in Nature. In January 1999, Epoch entered into a License and Supply Agreement with The Perkin-Elmer Corporation (Perkin-Elmer). Under the terms of the agreement, Epoch licensed certain of its enabling genetic analysis technology to Perkin-Elmer. Additionally, Perkin-Elmer will purchase Epoch's proprietary chemical intermediates. Perkin-Elmer holds an exclusive license to U.S. Patent No. 5,801,155 (Covalently Linked Oligonucleotide Minor Groove Binder Conjugates, issued September 1, 1998) in the field of 5'-nuclease assays, for non-clinical uses with real-time nucleic acid amplification monitoring. For the many areas not covered by the Perkin-Elmer agreement, Epoch anticipates granting non-exclusive licenses, although in certain cases exclusive licenses may be available. All non-human uses of Epoch technology, all solid phase (array) uses, and all human clinical uses remain available.
