IDI aims to enable medecine to progress from an empiral to a prospective approach in the treatment of bacterial and fungal infectious through the rapid genomic identification of bacteria and fungi and their antibiotic resistance genes. With the technology developed by IDI the results are available for the physician within an hour, rather than two or tree days. Furthermore, IDI are able to identify over 90% of the pathogens responsible for 95% of all the common bacterial and fungal infections. In addition to its research activities, IDI has also set up a molecular diagnosis laboratory. IDI Lab is the only state-of-the-art laboratory in Canada dedicated solely to molecular diagnostics.
